Protecting “Si Se Puede”

The firm successfully brought an action before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board opposing an airline’s attempt to register the United Farm Workers Union’s famous slogan, “Si Se Puede,” and secured federal registration of the mark for the Union.

When the slogan “Si Se Puede” was used by a U.S. presidential campaign, the firm prepared a cease and desist letter and helped the union negotiate a license to use the slogan in the presidential campaign. The firm also protects the United Farm Workers’ iconic Black Eagle trademark, and has helped the Union’s in-house counsel develop a comprehensive trademark use and enforcement policy. In the proudest moment of her life, Brooke received a standing ovation from farmworkers at their national convention for protecting their iconic chant, originally coined by Dolores Huerta.
